FRSC inaugurates 2 Unit Commands in Gombe

Two new FRSC Unit Commands have been inaugurated in Billiri and Dukku of Gombe State and two patrol pick-ups for the new Commands have been provide by the Federal Government to enhance the State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) services.

The Gombe State Corps Commandant, Felix Theman, during the inauguration disclosed that, the development will go a long way in reducing road crashes and ensuring safety of lives and property of road users.

Patrol pick-up vehicles for the new Commands

According to him, apart from the two units upgraded, the command has provided an Area Command in Kaltungo, assuring that four more are in the pipeline.

He explaining further that, the Gombe State Command of FRSC made four additional proposals to be upgraded from Station Offices in Billiri, Kumo, Dukku, Talase and Dadin-Kowa as well as two Zebra Points at Kashere Junction and Bambam. 

“This proposal may take some time to implement. We need the buy-in of the communities to enable us achieve them. The current effort is, therefore, in line with our overall objective of marshalling the roads to increase enforcement and respond to incidents as provided for in our mandate,” he said.

“The Commandant seeks the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, especially road users, in ensuring security and safety on the state’s roads,” he noted, maintaining that such is a responsibility of all.

He urged their motoring public to “drive according to the rules, cultivate the habit of respect for the law and law enforcement agents,” adding that, “those with fake plates, faded numbers, unregistered vehicles, pose a risk to our collective security.”

Commandant Felix Theman revealed that they shall make provision for engagement to enable all and sundry update their registrations in those new locations.

He stressed that, “As part of the management determination to improve its services, the Corps has received two units of Extrication Machines for easy removal of trapped victims of road crashes, and one unit of Digital Breathalyzer for alcohol testing on drivers, who abuse alcohol, while driving.”

The Commandant further appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the state government, state ministry of works and transportation, Billiri, Kaltungo and Dukku Local Government Councils as well as Senator Tony Siako Yaro for their support and cooperation. He appealed to the State Government to provide the Corps with additional ambulances to improve its rescue services.

Speaking also, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Transportation, Alhaji Idris Ƴanbiyu Buba, charged road users to be law abiding and collaborate with the officials for safety of lives and property.

While congratulating the Corps for the feat, the permanent secretary assured FRSC of his ministry’s usual support and cooperation, for effective services.

Also in their goodwill messages, representatives of sister organizations, road users associations and other stakeholders congratulated FRSC Gombe for the new development, calling on officers of the Corps to develop the spirit of “maintenance culture,” while handling the new vehicles and machines, for maximum utilization.
