Kaduna Healthcare Delivery: “Our purpose is to provide quality services” – SMoH tells KADMAM

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Kaduna State Ministry of Health (SMoH) says the main purpose of the ministry is to “provide quality healthcare services” to the people and residents of the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the state ministry, Adamu Mohammed Mansur, disclosed this when Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM) were in the ministry to present some of the findings in health facilities in the state for 2022.

“As a state, we subscribe to good governance. We are always seeking for accountability. The services we are providing are in the facilities.

“At least KADMAM came there independently to verify. They saw the services that are being verified and came here to ask us to mirror ourselves’ in the sense that I’m aware we need to improve.

“We will improve, but on the whole we are happy with the presentation, because out of the 13 life-saving drugs we are supposed to have in our facilities they only randomly selected 7, and out of the 7 they randomly selected 4. And out the 4, we are not doing badly, like as you all witness,” the Permsec said.

“When they also showed us score card for the primary health care centres, it was very encouraging.  There is so much to do and we will continue to improve because our main purpose is to provide quality healthcare services for the residents.

Earlier, Dr. Suleiman Tanko and Benjamin Maigari of KADMAM, a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) for health in Kaduna State whose activities supported by E4A MamaYe and Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL), presented findings they did in the state health facilities and score card.

In an interview Dr. Tanko said they were in the ministry to present some of the findings that they did in health facilities in the state in 2022, especially secondary and primary healthcare facilities.

“We are in the ministry of health today to present some of the findings that we did in health facilities in the state for 2022.  These facilities are secondary facilities, especially general hospitals and primary healthcare facilities in the LGAs. We have tried to see and track what is happening in terms of services in various facilities in the state.

“The scores we were able to get had some improvements, based on the previous years, and the improvement in the second half of the year 2022, as against the first quarter of the year.

“We have also been able to highlight the issues with SMoH, where they have promised to look at the places that need improvement.

“We have also had, during our observations, realized that they need to improve the quality of data kept at the facilities, especially at secondary facilities; and we have gotten their promise to look at the issue. But in general, we scored the ministry of health higher than what they have been doing,” they stated.
