The Nigerian Institute for Building (NIOB) has its plan to organize a workshop to explore progress in technology and innovation platforms for mass housing delivery in the country.

President of the Institute, Prof. Yohana Izam, disclosed this, while speaking on Unity FM Radio Programme in Jos recently, when he said, “In spite of advancement in materials technology, the country’s building industry has not departed from materials and processes that are characterized by wastage, high cost and poor quality.”

He added that, “The incoming administration must reposition the housing sector for provision of affordable housing through the enthronement of competence, professionalism and cutting edge innovations.”

Prof Yohana Izam also called for the creation of what he termed as a “technology and innovation context” for resolving the Nigerian housing crises. The radio progamme, which was on ‘setting a housing agenda for the incoming administration,’ was monitored in Jos on Monday.

He aligned himself with the view that, “For Nigeria to tackle its housing deficit, incoming administration has to sustain a minimum of 700,000 units of housing annually, and this requires a viable technology and innovation framework.”

According to him, “As a demonstration of its contribution, the Nigerian Institute of Building has plans to hold a workshop on the 10-11 May, 2023, at the Abuja International Conference Centre to explore progress in technology and innovation platforms for mass housing delivery in the country.”
