Kaduna electoral offenders released without trial – Sen. Shehu Sani alleges

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Senator Shehu Sani

The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate and civil rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has said that some persons arrested for different electoral offences during the just-concluded Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Kaduna State have been released without prosecution.

In a tweet, yesterday, the former federal lawmaker claimed that a woman caught with multiple Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and other men by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have all been released.

He said: “The woman, who was arrested with multiple PVCs and paraded by the EFCC during the presidential election, has regained freedom. And the men, who were arrested for vote buying and paraded by the EFCC during the governorship election in Kaduna, have all been released without charges and now at home.”

The media had reported that EFCC operatives intercepted a woman with no fewer than 18 voter cards in a sting operation at the Badarawa area of Kaduna during the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Also, another man was said to have been arrested for allegedly stolen BVAS gadget in Lere Council, and now presumably in custody of security operatives.

All efforts to clarify from the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Hajiya Zainab, failed, as the officer who picked the call was said to have “gone on transfer from Kaduna.”

The Police Command is yet to issue a statement on the development, until the press time.
