The suspension of Mr Awemi Dio Maisamari, as National President of Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU), has been officially lifted.
The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Union lifted the suspension after deliberating on the letter of appeal for reconciliation sent to it by the suspended president over his suspension from office by the CEC, on 13th December, 2023, following internal wrangling.
A statement signed by the Union spokesman, Mr Luka Binniyat, averred that the CEC sat on 1st February, 2023, at the National Secretariat of the Union in Kaduna with officers in full attendance.
“The CEC deliberated on a letter of appeal for reconciliation, dated 21st January, 2023, received from the President of SOKAPU, Mr Awemi Dio Maisamari, who was suspended from office by the CEC on 13th December, 2023.
“During the meeting, the President made a genuine appeal for reconciliation to resolve the differences between him and the CEC, in the interest of SOKAPU and Southern Kaduna.
“After highlighting their concerns and listening to the responses of the President, members of the CEC resolved to lift the suspension.
“It is in the best interest of the CEC and Southern Kaduna as a whole that SOKAPU amicably resolves its internal disagreements, with immediate effect.
“The motion for the immediate lifting of the suspension of the President was moved, seconded and unanimously adopted.
“Based on Resolution No.2, Mr Awemi Dio Maisamari resumes his full duties as the substantive President of SOKAPU, with effect from 1st February, 2023.
“The President shall convene necessary meetings to address very pressing issues concerning the Union and Southern Kaduna in the shortest possible time.
“We, therefore, call on our members and the general public to give the President and our great Union the usual support and cooperation in the discharge of their duties,” it stated.
