Senator Nora Daduut (representing Southern Senatorial District of Plateau State) along with her aides and fourteen journalists narrowly escaped death “by whiskers” from angry mob in the Southern Zone. An NUJ vehicle and a Pilot-car were burnt in the incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday when their convoy ran into an angry mob in Namu community of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It happened shortly after the Senator had commissioned an ICT Centre/E-Library in the community, leaving the vehicle of the NUJ Plateau State Council and the Pilot-vehicle belonging to the Senator burnt.
Our correspondent gathered that some people had stormed the community on Thursday afternoon and whisked away its four members.
The angry youths blocked the convoy of the Senator and started burning tires, insisting that the Senator must work out the return of the four persons before she is released.
Those, who were trapped in the community, include Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon Musa Gyang, Director-General of ICT Plateau State, Mr. David Dasar, and some aides of the Senator.
It was also gathered that, some traditional rulers, who attended the event, could not calm down the situation as the youths remained adamant to their pleading.
Senator Daduut escaped the mob a few hours after troops of the Operation SAFE HAVEN arrived at the scene.
In a related development, following a review of security breaches in Namu on Thursday, the Authorities of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council of Plateau State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Namu Town and its environs with immediate effect.
A statement signed by Hon Gideon Godenaan Dashe, who is Secretary of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council of the state, indicated that citizens of the area are expected to remain indoors until further notice. They are also advised to remain law abiding and avoid any action that will cause further breaches, while security operatives have been mandated to take charge of the town.
