A combined numbers of about 1,000 women and youths in Bauchi State have been empowered with the sum of N150 million.
While distributing the empowerment packages in Toro and Dad’s local government areas of the state recently by the State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, he noted that he had received a security report revealing that some people are being cheated in the course of the distribution of the empowerment under the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP).
He said, there were murmuring and complaints in the way and manner that some of those items were distributed and some people were cheated.
According to him, “The beneficiaries of the empowerment programme will be the owners of the items, be it cash or working tools, and are not under any obligation to share it with anybody.”
The governor noted, too, that, “The KEEP is to help the people at the grassroots that cut across all the interest groups, be it political parties, irrespective of their persuasion or wherever they are; just select from the local government.”
He explained that, the initiative was followed because of the resolve of his administration to fulfilling its campaign promises in the areas of road construction, schools, hospitals and other infrastructures.
While in Toro local government, Governor Muhammad’s empowerment package to the tune of N75 million was distributed and, in Dass local government area, another N75 million empowerment package was also distributed.
The governor noted that, for many years now, the people of Toro and Dass LGAs and others in the Bauchi South have been landlocked, despite being close to the state capital, adding that, his administration was doing everything possible to bridge the infrastructural gaps.
He assured the people of Dass LGA that, he would follow-up on the construction of Bayan Dutse Road, which was awarded by the Federal Government, adding that, the one from Dass to Bununu, which was awarded by his administration, would equally be constructed during his tenure.
The Chairman of Dass LGA, Alh. Muhammed Suleiman, and that of Toro, Alh. Adamu Umar, both appreciated the governor for improving the standard of living of the citizens in the state through the initiative, and urged the people to support the government in improving their plight.
