As insecurity gets deteriorated in most northern parts of the country, especially in the president’s home state, Katsina, the youths in the region have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign to pave way for capable hands to handle the challenges.
The call was contained in a statement issued Friday by president of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, Isah Abubakar. The youth council said it is obvious the president has run out of all ideas on how to handle the worsening security challenges in the country and, therefore, is urging him o resign honourably.
It stated that, “President Muhammadu Buhari should humbly resign, since it is obvious that he has run out of ideas on how to subdue the terrorists that have taken over significant parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara States and the busiest Kaduna-Abuja expressway on one side and, recently, the daring attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP, which has continued unabated.”
The statement called on the National Assembly to impeach the president, in case he refuses to heed to the recommendation.
“We call on the National Assembly to expedite action and initiate processes of impeachment against the President, if he refused to resign.”
The statement reads in parts: “Following the security challenges that have engulfed our country, most especially Northern Nigeria, which is now the epicentre of kidnapping-for-ransom, bloodbath and lately abattoir where humans are roasted alive for the crime of daring to travel on roads that were constructed from the taxes they paid to government.
“The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria is constraint to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to humbly resign, since it is obvious that he has run out of ideas on how to subdue the terrorists that have taken over significant parts of Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara states and the busiest Kaduna-Abuja expressway on one side, and recently, the daring moves attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP, which has continued unabated.
“It is embarrassing that, President Buhari is idly watching the terrorists reigning supreme in our country, imposing taxes on his supposed citizens; yet, he is unperturbed. This is the clear characteristics of a leader that has run out of steam.
“In the alternative, where he fails to eat the humble pie, we call on the National Assembly to expedite action and initiate processes of impeachment against the President. Nigerians will certainly stand with them. This will equally help in redeeming the damaged reputation of the National Assembly.
“Where the above recommendation fails, Nigerians should do everything possible to defend themselves. We can’t continue to watch anarchist reign supreme over us, while we sit like cowards to be killed. It is better you are arrested and kept in prison for daring to defend yourself than be buried in grave because you didn’t dare to do something.
