The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr Abok Ayuba, has been impeached at the early hours of Thursday morning.
The unusual sitting on Thursday morning, presided by the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, Saleh Yipmong, elected Yakubu Sanda (APC-Pengana) as the new speaker.
It was gathered that the Deputy Speaker said, 16 members of the House signed the impeachment, while eight members were in the House as early as 6 am to carry out the impeachment under the presence of heavy-armed security personnel.
Investigation, however, revealed that only 8 members signed the Impeachment Letter and not 16 as stated by the Deputy Speaker.
The former Speaker had been accused of gross incompetence, financial misappropriation and abuse of office, and is yet to react to the development.
At early as 6am, the Plateau State House of Assembly was sealed by operatives of the DSS and men of the Nigeria Police.
Our correspondent gathered that, only the APC members were allowed entrance at the House of Assembly at the early hours Thursday morning.
