Gombe State completes 11 “qualitative” projects to ease people’s hardships

About 11 qualitative projects that impacted positively on the lives of people of Gombe State have been executed by the North East Development Commission, NEDC.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Bauchi over the weekend, the North Youths and Elders Forum, through its National President, Alhaji Salihu Magaji, expressed its satisfaction for the execution of the projects.

He said, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, sited the projects across different communities, and the projects addressed their most pressing problems.

According to him, “the 11 projects are physically for anyone to come and see and even to touch and feel it,” assuring that it has been completed and awaiting commissioning.

While listing the projects he said these include Gombe – solar installation at Specialist Hospital, Kaltungo – Snake Anntivnum, Billiri – Farm Service Centre at Ladoungur, Akko – Farm Service Centre at Kalshingi, Kwami – Farm Service Centre at Dukul, Dukku – Farm Service Centre at Dukku, Balanga – Farm Service Centre at Gelengu.

Others include, Funakaye – Renovation of PHC at Bodour, Ashaka Gari, Abuja, Nafada – Renovation of PHC at Gadi, Shaganawo, Tashan Kalgo, Yemaltu Deba – Renovation of Junior Staff Quarters at CGSS Dadin Kowa and in Shongom – Upgrade of PHC to Cottage Hospital.

The National President explained that, since the establishment it has awarded contract for the construction of 3,000 housing projects, as part of its effort to bring succor to the people of North East.

He stated further that, 1,000 buildings were completed in Borno State, while construction of 500 houses was awarded in Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa and Gombe States, respectively.

“The foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the 500 Mass Housing Units in Gombe State is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 6th October 2021,” he noted, adding that there will be flagging-off of the distribution of Food and Non-food items to address the rapidly deteriorating food insecurity situation in the North East Region, especially in Gombe State.

“In Gombe, the NEDC will Commission/Hand over Gombe – solar installation at Specialist Hospital Gombe and in Kaltungo – Snake Anntivnum, which would address the problem of light and cater for the high incidences of snake bites, associated incidences in the state, among others.”

“The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) was established to address developmental challenges in the northeast region and to restore means of livelihood of the people, following the effects of over 12 years-long insurgency as a result of activities of Boko Haram in the region.

“The effects of insurgency led to a massive influx of people into the urban areas with most of them taking shelter at any available public spaces, homes, schools, huts, abandoned and uncompleted buildings, while many trooped to neighboring Northeastern States. Hundreds settled in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the state.”
