PDP protesters occupy Kaduna State lNEC office, decry faulty LG polls results

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM)’s office on Tuesday was beclouded by protesting members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the outcome of the just-concluded Local Government Council elections in the state.

The protesters, who came from different local government council areas, described the Saturday 4th September 2021 LG polls as “a big shame.”

Speaking to journalists during the protest held in front of KADSIECOM, the PDP Chairman for Jemaa LG, Daniel Bawa, said PDP won the Saturday LG council chairman polls.

The party chairman said “There is no All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Jema’a LG,” calling APC to come out with prove for winning 24,255 votes, which gave them lead during the council polls as claimed.

According to him, a KADSIECOM commissioner, one Prof Gambo A. compromised by changing trained ad-hoc staff for untrained ones, also adding that some returning officers also disappeared with original results.

They also complained of malfunctioned electronics voting machines (EVM). Also speaking, a stakeholder from Sanga LGA, Mr. Nuhu Audi, in company of others also said that APC does not exist in the LG.

“We were disenfranchised during the last LGA elections in so many ways. APC doesn’t exist in Sanga. What happened was a shame because I have never in my life witnessed the election conducted in that manner.

“It was an election based on harassment, cheating, maiming and beating for a sin the people didn’t commit.

“Things like that never happened in Sanga in the history. Sanga is a peaceful place; we are all brothers. Anywhere you see crisis, it means there is injustices. Injustice brings distraction, creates chaos among brothers,” he lamented.

Mr Audi, who threatened going to court, also said “Look at our letter of request. Our agents at the collation centre were harassed, driven away at gun point. They didn’t allow us to copy some election results.

“We followed up, wrote a letter of request through our lawyer, that our rights that was denied will be given to us, since last week up till now no hope and election matters are time bound.”

He continued that, “Since morning, we have been here, nobody is even ready to attend to us. It is undemocratic.

“Since last week, we don’t have access to the results. I am bittered, am disappointed that in this millennium that people can behave the way they do. We are not happy about that, we are demanding that this document (Certified true copy of INEC results) be given to us so that we can go to our lawyers so that our case will be filed accordingly,” he said.

It was also gathered that, other PDP dominated LGs, including Kachia, have staged same protests, while Igabi and others are still warming up.
