Bandits kill Reverend, 11 others in fresh attacks in Kaduna

…Several others displaced.

Again bandits have reportedly killed 12 persons, including a Reverend, in Pyeijim Village of Atyap Chiefdom in Zangon-Kataf local government area of Kaduna State.

The bandits, wielding AK47s rifles allegedly met their victims at about 5:30pm on Sunday, after their evening Church Service.

An eyewitness and member of the vigilante group, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists that the armed bandits invaded the community in the late hours of Sunday.

He further stated that the gunmen came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically, which resulted in the death of 12 persons, while others sustained injuries.

Among those killed are the Senior Pastor of ECWA Church, Kibori, Reverend Silas Yakubu, whose body was discovered around Zango Urban, where he was suspected to have been killed, while the injured are receiving treatment at the Zonkwa Rural Hospital.

Contacted, the Kaduna State Police command spokesman, Muhammed Jalige (0803 914 2451), could not respond at the time of filling this report. One Mr Jonathan Ishaya, who is a brother to some of the victims, confirmed the incident.

Similarly, residents of Ungwan Sauri and Maje villages in Chikun Local Government Area of the state came under attack recently.

The bandits allegedly abducted 23 persons from the area and other neighbouring communities around Kaduna Eastern bye-pass, when the people where running for their safety to other communities, for fear of impending attack.

Residents of the areas are calling on the government to beef up security in the area to enable them go about pursuing their legitimate businesses.
