World Bank embarks on construction of 1,000 rural feeder roads in Bauchi State

World Bank is to construct 1,000 rural feeder roads across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State  

Chairman of Kirfi local government area of the State disclosed this to journalist in Bauchi recently, when he revealed that the State Government was also partnering with Gombe State Government and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to construct the long-awaited Kirfi-Gombe-Abba 73- kilometer road as part of efforts to reduce the problem of transportation in the area.

He stressed that, the roads would be constructed as part of the effort and zeal of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad to provide roads network in the rural areas and help farmers to have access to agricultural markets that will ease the sales their farm produce.

The LGC chairman assured that, already arrangements to kick-start the projects have reached advance stage, as the governor has paid his own counterpart funding, in order to access the funds, saying, the World Bank has assured to support the State Government with funds to fast track the execution of the project.

According to him, the project was part of determination of the present administration in the state to ensure that rural farmers had hitch-free transportation of their produce.

For over 50 years, he said, communities of the area have been yearning for the construction of the Kirfi-Gombe-Abba road.

According to him, NEDC had sent surveyors, who had already carried out the survey of the road, and have interface with the communities and carried the soil of the area for laboratory analysis as part of the preparation to commence the project.
