Bauchi Govt Removes SSG, Chief of Staff “For Lack of Political Skills”

by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

Bauchi State Governor, Bala  Abdulkadir Muhammad, has sliced his cabinet in an unprecedented manner, dropping a huge number of the members of the State Executive.

These include: twenty-one Commissioners, Secretary to the State government (SSG), Chief of Staff have been removed by the Bauchi State Government because “they can’t play politics.”

The governor announced their removal during the 2021 Democracy Day celebration in Zaki Town, which is headquarters to Zaki Local Government Area of the State, on Saturday, while stating that their removal was because they “don’t know how to play politics.”

He explained that, “Those involved don’t know how to play politics, and I cannot work with those type of people. I just have to get others, and real politicians that can do the job together with me and bring out Bauchi from deadlock.”

Governor Muhammad believes that, their removal will give an opportunity to other willing and capable people to serve the state and help in moving it ahead.

A statement by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, said Governor Muhammad approved the immediate dissolution last Wednesday of the “State Executive Council and other political appointees that include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (COS) Government House and all Special Advisers,” except four named ones to whom no reason was given for their sack then, but the governor thanked the dismissed officials for their ‘meritorious service’ to the state.
