The Plateau State Southern Senatorial bye-elections, which was conducted over the weekend, following the death of late Senator Ignatius Longjang of the APC candidate, INEC has declared Prof Nora Daddut as the winner.
Announcing the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Shendam on Sunday by the Resident Commissioner of INEC, Hussaini Halilu Pai, he said Prof Nora polled a total cast of 83,15104 votes, defeating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, George Daika, who secured 70,838 votes.
While monitoring the election earlier, our correspondent reports that, the turnout of voters was very impressive in the 6 local government area of the state.
“As early as 8.15 am, many voters were seen queuing in several polling units, while in Mikang voting started in some polling units as early as 9.00 a.m.”
Addressing journalists in Shendam, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in the state, Hussaini Halilu Pai, said “the polls have commenced and there are no hitches.”
According to him, voters without face masks would not be allowed to vote, and assured that, the Commission had made adequate preparations for free, fair, credible and transparent election.
He said, “Wearing of face mask is compulsory at the polling units and all election locations. Voters, party agents and other stakeholders will make provision for their face masks, adding that, any voter without a face mask shall be turned away from the Polling Units.”
The Commissioner stated that, the Commission has approved the introduction of new steps to further strengthen the election management process and enhance the transparency of the system.
