PLATEAU STATE – In order to fulfill one of his campaign promises of “developing the capacities of the vulnerable through strategic empowerment,” the Member representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Rep. Simon Mwadkwon, has distributed grinding and sewing machines to 80 vulnerable persons across the various wards in the federal constituency.

Speaking during the occasion, the federal lawmaker said the initiative was in fulfillment of the scripture, which preaches thus: “Care for those in need” and in line with his campaign promise of assisting the less-privileged.

He added that, “Having gone through violent attacks, the means of livelihood of the people have been adversely affected. There is the need to assist them.”

He said the gesture, which was the brainchild of his wife, is not unique but a way of demonstrating empathy to the less-privileged.

The lawmaker revealed that, the humanitarian gesture was meant to provide a steady stream of income that will assist the beneficiaries, their immediate families and dependents financially.

While considering the negative impacts of the novel COVID-19 pandemic, they thought it wise to assist the people to be financially and economically stable.

Hon Dr. Simon Mwadkwon admonished the people to be agents of peace, embrace one another, display love at all times, and to report any suspicious persons to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and shun violence, as nothing meaningful can be achieved in a hostile environment.

Speaking also, wife of the federal lawmaker, Mrs. Diana Mwadkwon, said “The idea is to identify with the vulnerable and give them a sense of belonging,” and urged them to display high maintenance culture and use the items for the target purpose.

The Member representing Riyom Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Dantong, equally applauded the federal lawmaker for the “display of humanity and his pragmatic representation.”

He lauded the uncommon achievements of the Legislator, and urged the beneficiaries to put the items to profitable use.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to our correspondent, appreciated the federal lawmaker for identifying with them in their most trying moment and assisting them to be economically active, and prayed God to provide more to him and promised to put the items in good use.
