The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) Youth Wing has frowned at inability of both the state and federal governments to rehabilitate, reconstruct and reintegrate communities affected by the genocide in its area.
The therefore called on both the federal and state governments to urgently rebuild ravaged communities and reintegrate thousands of families and persons displaced as a result of the attacks in the region.
The youth group maintained that “anything short of the above will amount to negligence and complicity in the plight of the Southern Kaduna people.”
This was contained in a statement signed by its national coordinator, Comrade John Isaac, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna state.
“While we continue to mourn the barbaric killings of our beloved brethren by criminal Fulani militias and bittered by the destruction of properties and farm produce worth millions of naira as a result of this carnage across parts of Southern Kaduna, we believed that any sincere commitment that will promote peaceful co-existence on the part of government and ameliorate the sufferings of the affected communities should involve the following steps: Bringing a total end to the killings and master-minders and culprits identified brought to book,” it stated.
The statement further indicated that the implementation of a deliberate action aimed at effectively handling the humanitarian crisis, reintegration and rebuilding programme as well as the effective reconstruction of social, economic and physical infrastructures across the affected communities will help in ending the senseless killings.
It further said that a peace building initiative with SOKAPU, given a platform and ensuring adequate security and a secured atmosphere for agricultural activities to thrive will also help.
The group called on the state government to reverse traditional institutions across Southern Kaduna to their former status-quo, as it were in 2015, in order to further ensure peaceful coexistence.
