The Youth Wing of Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, has impeached its national coordinator, Comrade John Isaac (Sir Jay), over alleged financial improprieties, disrespect for executive members, among other allegations levelled against him.
In a petition, signed by five exco members and secretary, Comr. Isaac was also accused of persuading the executive members of the union to visit Fulani IDP camp in Mairi, in Lere local government area of Kaduna state, to justify cash donation to the Union by Hon. Abdulmalik Durunguwa without the knowledge of exco and converting the said money to his personal use.
His impeachment was declared in a statement issued and signed by the national secretary of SOKAPU Youth Wing, Mr. Augustine Baye, and four other exco members also in a petition they collectively signed.
The statement, made available to journalists on Sunday in Kaduna by the aggrieved executive officials of the Union, mandated the deputy national coordinator, Comrade Katuka Jerry, to take over the leadership as substantive National Youth Coordinator of the Union.
The Union also disassociated itself from what it termed as “unfortunate gross misconduct” under his leadership, alleging that Mr. Isaac was also found wanting for breaching the association’s constitution for diverting funds meant for the association for personal engagements.
It also lamented that Comrd John Isaac’s actions undermined the core values of the association and the power bestowed on the leadership.
“Consequently, we the 5 out of the 7 executive members of the SOKAPU National Youth Wing, hereby withdraw our loyalty for the leadership of Comrade John Isaac (Sir Jay) as the national youth coordinator, on the grounds of loss of confidence in his leadership.
“Therefore, the association hereby impeaches Comrade John Isaac, “Sir Jay,” as the national youth coordinator of SOKAPU youth wing through a constitutional power of the majority. All constitutional privileges granted him are hereby withdrawn, with immediate effect.
“In accordance with SOKAPU Constitution, the Deputy Coordinator, Comrade Katuka Jerry, hereby takes over as the substantive National Youth Coordinator of our great union,” it stated.
Earlier, the union, in a petition dated 11th September, 2020, and made available to our correspondent faulted the impeached coordinator of non-compliance, breach of trust and code of conduct, for denying the Union’s Treasurer the constitutional recognition as signatory in opening of the Union bank account, quoting Section 29 (ii, iii, vi).
Besides, Isaac was also accused of disrespecting other exco members of the union, given award without proper consultation and organizing a press conference for the purpose of gaining financial favour at the expense of majority, as well as non-introduction of exco members during courtesy visits.
Comrd. Isaac was said to have allegedly defrauded the union by collecting N300,000 but declaring N200,000 instead, after organising a “kangaroo award” for Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, and the siphoning of the sum of N60,000 that was earmarked for a press conference, as well as diversion of cash donations meant for general purpose of the union, respectively.
