Court postpones Kaduna PDP’s Saturday Congress

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State chapter says it has received an ex-parte court order postponing the state congress scheduled for Saturday.

The party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman and the Secretary, Hon. Bashir Tanimu Dutsinma and Hon Abdullahi Ali Kano, respectively, disclosed this in a statement issued, signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday.

The statement stressed that the party had already successfully completed the 23 local governments’ congress last Wednesday and was planning for the state congress fixed for the next Saturday.

It explained that the party would abide by the directive of the court to postpone the congress, while a new date will be announced as soon as possible.

It will be recalled that, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had reconstituted Kaduna State Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the party.

The action of the NWC, which is pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the PDP Constitution 2017, as amended, is consequent upon the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing state caretaker committee.

The reconstituted caretaker committee is charged with the sole responsibility of running the affairs of the party in Kaduna state until a new executive committee is elected, for a period not exceeding 90 days (3 months).
