A team of Northern Christian Clerics at weekend felicitated with all Muslims across the 36 states of the federation, including Africa, as they continue to mark the arrival of the new Islamic Year, urging them to intensify prayers for peace and unity in the country and West Africa at large.
The call was made by Pastor Yohanna Buru when a team of Muslim youths and scholars visited him at his residence in Sabon Tasha, in southern part of Kaduna area dominated by Christians.
The visit was aimed at extending friendly relationship with him and other Christian youth organizations that are living in the area, for peace building.
According to the Christian cleric, every year, he usually sends thousands of peace messages through his facebook page and social media to all his Muslim friends and relation on Islamic New Year.
Pastor Buru wished every Muslim in the state and across the world a happy Islamic New Year celebration, and enjoined residents of the state to continue living harmoniously and peacefully with tolerance and understanding, so as to support government’s mission in promoting peace and unity among its citizens.
“Nigerian must show tolerance, forgiveness and help government in spreading the message of peace and unity among its citizens, and also to support the government in tackling all forms of ethno-religious, political and regional differences that are disturbing peace stability in the country.
Buru added that, “We must congratulate our Muslim brothers that are celebrating their Happy New Year today. We should always remember that, we are one family under one God.
“We are from one family – Adam and Eve – worshiping one God. We all believe in paradise and hell, as well as believe in the Day of Resurrection. We all believe in Holy Bible and Qur’an. Therefore, we congratulate the Muslim Umma round the world, and we are hoping to join them in the celebration, in order to promote religious tolerance and forgiveness,” he said.
Buru further appealed to all Muslims to always remember the less-privileged in the society, and appealed to them to assist orphans and widows and orphanage homes. He also called Muslims and Christians to embark on “ceaseless prayers” for God to bring an end to all the insecurity challenges that are affecting peace stability, economic development, among others.
He then called on the federal government to declare every day of new Islamic Calendar to be a holiday, in order to enable Muslims celebrate their day with joy and happiness, adding that some states in Nigeria have declared today a holiday for the citizens to celebrate the day in a special way.
Similarly, Pastor John Joseph of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Sabon Tasha, has equally called on both the people of southern Kaduna to live in peace and harmony, saying, “We need peace in the entire region of southern Kaduna and Nigeria at large.”
Also responding from the team of the Christian leaders that interacted with the Muslim youths to promote peace at Pastor Yohanna’s residence was the Reverend and Evangelist of the Christ Evangelical Church in Kaduna, who urged Muslims and Christian youth leaders to shun hate speeches, and encouraged youths to always live in peace and harmony with each other.
One of the youth leaders in the state, Mallam Gambo Abdullahi Barnawa, said the celebration of the happy new Islamic Year is not only for Muslims, but to all human kind, while thanking the Christian leaders for sending SMS to Muslim youths in congratulating them for the new Islamic Year.
