A pregnant woman has died during child labour in an internally-displaced persons’ (IDP) camp located in the Assemblies of God Church premises in Gonin Gora, in Kaduna State.
She died on Saturday in one of seven IDP camps occupied by Gbagy people, who have been displaced from their various villages in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state.
Director of the camps, Rev. Kanu Bulus, who disclosed this when leaders of South-West, East, South-South and Middle-Belt Forum paid condolence visit to the IDPs and donated some relief materials, said the displaced persons had finished 3 bags of Gari with water when they came newly.
He said he was rushing to the market to buy something to cook food for them, but expressed dismay that they finished three bags of powdered Gari by soaking in water before he returned back because of hunger.
Rev. Bulus, who spoke through the master of the ceremony, MC, and spokesman of Southern People’s Union, SOKAPU, Luka Binniyat, however, appealed for more support for the IDPs during an interview with newsmen.
He explained that over 300 people are in IDPs across the seven camps, adding that mass burial for the deceased pregnant woman was in progress when Southern/Middle-Belt Forum leaders paid the condolence visit.
The President of SOKAPU, Hon. Jonathan Asake, seriously condoled with the IDPs and urged them to still exercise patience, as the body is doing everything humanly possible to support them.
