An NGO, ‘Women for Peace in Nigeria’ (WOPIN), has passionately appealed to women all over the world, particular Africa and Nigeria, to own up to their responsibility as mothers by taking advantage of the current global challenges of pandemic orchestrated by Covid-19 lockdown.
WOPIN, in a statement issued by its president, Dr Maryam Abdullahi, stated that even though the burden of domestic responsibilities have tripled unprecedentedly as a result of the continuous lockdown in most states, it provides mothers an advantage to reconcile every homes with God for His glory for peace, especially now that every member of the family is available.
She stated that it has become obvious that mothers’ roles have increased given the length of lockdown and the time it’s taking for every family to stay at home 24 hours without going to work, schools and social activities by husbands, children, sons and daughters.
“While there’s no doubt that livings depends largely on hustling, security of lives and properties and welfare of the people, it’s also worthy of note that life is only meant for the living.”
Haj. Mariyam said, while WOPIN understands with husbands as bread winners of homes and families and their contributions, she enjoined male folks to “be patient and mindful” of the enormous challenges faced by their wives at this trying time in keeping the home front happy with the responsibilities and prayer for God’s intervention.
While she appreciated the courage and wellbeing of members, Dr Maryam appealed to all, irrespective of religion and tribes, to endeavor to adhere strictly to all governments’ safety regulations by maintaining social distancing, stay at home, wear nose masks and wash hands as regularly as possible to stay alive free of the Covid-19 virus.
She also called on women to extend hands of fellowship and love to neighborhood and the vulnerable for the blessing of God.
