Supporters of Shiites’ leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, on Wednesday defiled police ban and staged another protest in Kaduna.
The protest, which took place along popular Ahmadu Bello Way by Kaduna Central Market was, however, peaceful but led to untold traffic lockjam in central areas.
Protesters, numbering in hundreds of mostly male and female, carried placards with different inscriptions and chanting songs in Hausa language.
The protest, which commenced in high speed and spirit, starting from Leventis Round-About to Jos Road/Katsina Round-About saw the protesters demanding for the release of leader of IMN, El-Zakzaky, amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
Our reporter, who monitored the protest, reported that even though people scampered for safety due to the protest, no known casualties were recorded.
Contacted, the Kaduna police command spokesman, Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the allegation, did not, neither elaborated on the protest nor as to why police presence was not felt during the less than one hour protest.
Business activities were also partly affected during the 11am protest, as market women and men fled the scene of the aggrieved protesting youth.
