There appears to be excitement, as Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kaduna state council on Wednesday evening surprised members with its widow’s mite as financial palliatives.
The palliative, which coincided with the distribution of COVID-19 protective materials donated by directors of Global Peace Foundation, came as surprise package to journalists as the only financial support enjoyed since the outbreak of the pandemic in Kaduna state as a whole.
Speaking during the package presentation, the council chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, said “The council has no choice than to scratch its savings to assist members to enhance their movement in times like this, no matter how small.”
Members, with smiling faces of appreciation, commended the Adamu Yusuf-led administration for the initiative and foresight.
Though small, the financial package was widely appreciated as a good gesture coming at a time it’s most needed by members of the most cherished Fourth Estate of the Realm.
The chairman used the opportunity to enjoin members to be self-conscious and keep to safety regulations and measures put in place by government, while discharging their constitutional responsibility as journalists.
