All is now set to host the 2020 edition of the Africa Continent Spelling Bee Competition, scheduled for November 18 to 22, 2020, in Nigeria. Coordinator of the
Nigeria Spelling Bee Competition Initiative, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, disclosed this in a forum with journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday.
He said 210 participants, including officials, are being expected to converge in the country during the four-day competition.
According to him, the first edition of the competition was held in South Africa, followed by Kenya and Uganda.
He further stated that the Federal Ministry of Education is the technical partner of the competition to ensure that best standard and practices are maintained.
The coordinator further disclosed that the competition, which aimed at encouraging the learning of English Language among Nigerian students, commenced with seven African countries to 23 hitherto, adding that only 21 countries are participating.
“In the national competition that was held last year in the country, the first winner in the Senior Secondary masteron cycle tips School section got a one million naira scholarship, while the second and third positions got N500,000 and N300,000 scholarships, respectively.
“Also, the Junior Secondary School winner last year got N500,00 scholarship and trickled downward,” he said.
