Plateau Govt press for proactive measures against criminal elements

by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

The Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs Josephine Piyo, says the arrest and prosecution of the criminals would serve as deterrent to others, who may want to attack other communities in the future.

She called for the arrest and prosecution of gunmen that have continued to unleash mayhem on citizens. She was speaking when she received the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on behalf of the Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang.

She regretted that a large number of bandits were moving from one place to another without being apprehended and called on the security agencies to intensify efforts towards curbing their activities.

She thanked President Bola Tinubu for sending the ACF to tour troubled states in efforts to curtail the conflicts and other laudable steps taken to end the killings, and commended the change of Service Chiefs and hoped that the changes would bring about the end of the killings in the state and the country at large.

The Deputy Governor further charged the Army and other security agencies responsible for addressing the killings to be fair and just in their dealings and treat all parties as equals.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of ACF, Plateau State Chapter, Comrade Mohammed Tali, stated that they were directed by the President to tour troubled states in the North in efforts to find lasting peace.

He charged the State Government to take steps and decisions that would save the lives of people, but faulted Northern Governors for not ending the almajiri system, which he said was one of the reasons behind the persistent crisis in the North, and prayed that the President takes daring steps to tackle the security situation in the country.
