House Committee Chairman opposes reinstatement of Speaker Abok

by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

PLATEAU STATE – The House Committee Chairman on Information, Daniel Na’anlong, and some members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have filled in an appeal for the judgment of reinstating the Speaker, Nuhu Ayuba Abok.

He was speaking, while addressing newsmen in Jos, when he noted that they are approaching the Appeal Court to seek for stay of execution.

While describing the event as “beauty of democracy,” the Committee Chairman said they have confidence in the country’s judiciary, adding, “And, if the judgment of the Appeal Court is in favour of Abok, the House has the liberty of going to the Supreme Court.”

He argued that the impeachment took place when Abok was Speaker of the House under the APC, and has now defected to the PDP, which makes the seat vacant, according to the Constitution.

According to him, the House only allowed Abok to enter the premises of the Assembly due to the respect they have for the rule of law and the Judiciary.

He said, the APC in the State is not divided but is focused on giving the people the best legislation as well as ensure a smooth transition from one democratically-elected Government to another.

Our correspondent reports that, since the case of impeachment of Nuhu Ayuba Abok, in October 2021, which took them to court with the presiding Judge, Justice Nefisa L. Musa, of the State High Court 6 in Jos, the Members who impeached him have never appeared in court since the inception of the case till the judgment was delivered.

It could be recalled that, the judgment was delivered on Monday, ordering the reinstatement of the Speaker of the Plateau State Assembly, Nuhu Ayuba Abok, who was impeached in October, 2021, by the same members who brought in Yakubu Sanda as the Speaker.
