Traditional Rulers in the Plateau State have been assured by the Governor-elect, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, that his administration will not downgrade or remove any Traditional Ruler from office when it takes-off on May 29th, 2023.
He gave the assurance when Mangu Local Government Traditional Council, led by the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness Da John Putmang Hirse, paid him a courtesy visit at the Jonah Jang Lodge, Old Government House Rayfield Jos, to congratulate him on his election.
He said he has plans to improve the traditional institution in the state, adding that, though the institution was used by his opponents as a “tool for propaganda” to batter his image, but he never made any remark anywhere suggesting that he would dethrone or downgrade any traditional ruler.
He explained that, the traditional institution was one of the institutions used during the campaign to blackmail him, that when he becomes Governor, he will downgrade some chiefs and bastardize the institution.
“But let me restate this in the presence of my father (Mishkaham Mwaghavul), that I have no thought other than how to improve the traditional institution,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, while delivering the goodwill message of the Traditional Council, commended Plateau people for finding one of his sons worthy to govern the State, adding that, “The only way for the Governor-elect to appreciate the people is by working hard to improve their lives and well-being.”
