Vandalization of Armoured Cables throws Kaduna Community into Blackout

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A community in Angwan Boro area of Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, has been experiencing total blackout for the past three nights, following the vandalization of three armoured cables of the unit’s transformer by hoodlums.

Most residents attributed the incidents to consistent power outage in the area caused by Kaduna Electric staff and hardship being experienced in the country.

Neighborhood eyewitnesses said the vandals broke into the transformer installation, along major Boro Road in the early hours of Monday night and carted away with the cables.

It was also learnt that, despites aggressive and consistent barking of residents’ security dogs, the vandals refused could not be scared, and no resident could venture out of his blocks to dare them.

On whether there was no supply of energy during the incident, the electric staffs could not respond on grounds that they had “no power to discuss with newsmen.”

However, a staff had it that his colleague (name withheld) tried to return the energy that night but could not succeed due to fear that power may spark and electrocute him.

All efforts to get the side of the Kaduna Electric Company proved abortive due to bottleneck, as the main authority concerned could not respond when contacted.
