PLATEAU STATE – A 54-year-old one Yohanna Danladi has been arraigned before the High Court of Justice in the Jos Judicial Division holden at Jos, for raping his step-sister’s 4-year-old daughter in Lahir, in Barkin Kasuwa of Mangu Local Government Area.
In the suit, No. PLD/J88C/2021, between the Commissioner of Police and Mr Yohanna Danladi, the police averred that the culprit was remanded at the Jos Prison over an alleged rape of a 4-year-old minor whose mother is of the same parentage.
The defendant has been standing trial on a one count charge of rape, which was said to have happened on January 16, 2021, within the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court, according to the Prosecutor, Barr. O.S. Okpuru.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant lured the girl into his room and asked her to buy something for him of the same address and, in the process, sexually assaulted her by pulling off his trouser, while carrying her on his laps against her will.
She informed the court that the victim was seriously brutalized in the vagina, resulting to bleeding and stitches of her vagina.
Okpuru said the defendant confessed to the crime but denied it, while the matter came up for hearing on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and claimed that his statements were ‘forcefully taken’ by Inspector Venshak Moses and Emmanuel Andrew.
Barr. Okpuru noted that, it could not be true as the victim that was raped obtained various degrees of injuries, saying that, the offence contravened Section 208, punishable by Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017. The plea of the accused was taken, and was still to be remanded in prison
The Presiding Judge, Justice Nafisatu Mohammed, adjourned the case to November 26, 2022, for final adoption of written addresses. Consequently, the defendant was returned back to prison. Meanwhile, his step-sister complained of threats to her life by family members for instituting suit.
