A factional chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State, Pastor Peter Hassan, who was detained by the police for alleged impersonation, has been granted bail.
Pastor Peter Hassan, who was also accused of collecting N2 million from the Southern Kaduna Senatorial candidate of the LP, Engr. Michael A. Auta, as the state party chairman, has also been dragged to court.
The accusation was leveled against Mr Hassan at the party office, opposite Queen Amina Collage, on Monday during a meeting involving executive and some candidates of the party.
Mr. Hassan was therein reported to the police and detained at the Aerial Police Division in Kakuri, on Monday, on charges bothering on alleged impersonation as LP state chairman and for collecting N2 million from Engr. Auta.
Our correspondent reported that, while Engr. Auta accused Pastor Hassan of allegedly duping him of N2 million, LP state party exco testified against Peter Hassan of impersonating as state chairman.
Mr Hassan was recently declared suspended over alleged gross misconduct by the party exco in an elaborate statement, signed by the state secretary, Mr. John Dominic Buayin, and the deputy state chairman, Group Capt Peter Haruna (Rtd).
Although, the spokesman of Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mohammed Jalige, could not respond when contacted, an LP exco member, who pleaded anonymity, said the accused person also pleaded not guilty of the allegations leveled against him.
The police, according to the state party exco, have, therefore, arraigned the parties in court for mentioning on a date yet to be confirmed.
According to the representative of LP, the accused was detained immediately after it was testified against him in the police station.
Pastor Peter was reportedly brought into the LP some years back by the then deputy chairman of the party, Group Capt Peter Haruna (rtd), as secretary.
“Mr. Hassan later hijacked the post when the then chairman was elevated to National Secretary of the party, and single-handedly conducted election and imposed himself as Chairman without INEC, Police and media supervision and presence,” LP said.
