Bandits recruiting local jihadist army, inter-marry in Kaduna LGs – Chairman B/Gwari Emirate

…Over a 100 communities sacked in B/Gwari.

So far, is has been estimated that, more than one hundred communities have been reportedly sacked from their original settlements by notorious armed bandits in many parts of Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State, the Chairman Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive, Comrade Isiyaku Usman Kasai, has revealed.

He also said that bandits are recruiting locals into their jihadist army and confirmed inter-marriage relationship between Ansaru group and the communities in which they reside, because they had shielded them from the bandits’ attacks for long.

The Union Chairman made the revelation in an interview with media at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kaduna Friday.

According to Kasai, the bandits entered Birnin Gwari Town in a large number and immediately conducted attacks on a First Bank and also on a Union Bank. In the process, they destroyed and stole millions of naira. 

According to him, the remaining bank, like Unity Bank operating after the incident later left the area as directed from its management.

He, however, revealed that bandits recently conducted the attacks severally in Damari and Dawaki and areas located at eastern parts of Birnin Gwari, killing many persons in the process. 

He added that, “As a results of those attacks conducted, our preliminary report showed that over fifty thousand (50,000) IDPs emerged within Birnin Gwari and environs.”

Comrade Usman also noted that, there is a bandits’ leader, who is terrorizing the area, called Yellow Jambrose, who had enforced themselves to over one hundred and forty (140) people from various communities and their farms, operating farmlands freely, in order to allow them to work on their farmlands.

The activist, however, confirmed the activities of Ansaru, who holds allegiances to Al-Qaida settled in eastern parts of Birnin Gwari, especially in Damari, Dogon Dawa, Buruku, Kasagi and Old Kuyello.

“Ansaru were propagating their own Islamic views and many local village communities actually accepted and joined them. They are also recruiting the locals into their jihadist army.”

They also confirmed the inter-marriage relationship between Ansaru and the communities because they have shielded them from the bandits’ attacks for a long time.
