The All Progressives Congress Strategic Monitoring Team (APC-SMT) has thrown its weight behind the choice of Governor Simon Lalong as the Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Team as “a round peg in a round hole,” saying, “it would foster equity and justice and also strengthen national cohesion.”
This position came when the APC Strategic Monitoring Team, led by its Coordinator, Golepji Wambutda, addressed journalists in a press briefing at the State Headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Friday.
The team saluted the support and decision of the APC and the flag-bearer of the party, H.E. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in appointing their governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, to serve as the Campaign Director-General of his campaign, saying, “His selection provides the other leg of the tripod on which the much-yearned inclusion, fairness and equity are needed to stand.
“For most of us, a Presidential Campaign Director-General is not just a mere appointment in the Campaign Council. Rather, it is in the heartbeat of the whole transition process and negotiations that the foundation of a new government is set after winning an election.
“Should he be verified for his decision to accept the position of a DG Campaign? No! Not at all; because it does not make sense for the whole field to be deserted and be left without a mark and effort to correct the anomaly!
“Also, is the leadership – or the quest for leadership – going to end in 2023? What about getting involved to make a huge leap in the future?”
According to the APC-SMT coordinator, “The appointment of the DG did not come to us as a surprise because he has never lost election and has led several successful elections around the nation.
“It will undoubtedly be on record that, he has achieved a great feat by fighting doggedly for the entrenchment of fairness that has ensured the APC Presidential ticket move to the Southern part of the country,” he disclosed.
Golepji Wambutda, therefore, congratulated Governor Lalong on his appointment as Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Team, while also reiterating the team’s “unalloyed support for his resolve to sail the campaign ship and ensure that he achieves this national assignment.”
