by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

JOS – In line with his “mission of policing with the fear of God,” the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Police Command, CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, has reportedly returned the sum of five million, nine hundred and twenty-seven thousand, one hundred and twenty naira cash (N5,927,120:00k) to the family of one Mr John Okeke of No.74B Rukuba Road, in Bassa LGA of Plateau State, on the 4th July, 2022.

The Police Commissioner disclosed this, while presenting the money to the victim, while revealing that, the unfortunate incident happened on the 22nd day of May, 2022, when a distress call was received by the Jengre Divisional Police Headquarters, that a robbery was taking place along Fuskan Mata, Jengre Road.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, SP ALOBO E. JOHN, Swiftly mobilized his patrol team and raced to the scene and rescued the victim, and cleared the road immediately, and restored normalcy to the area.

A statement to this effect was signed and issued to newsmen on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Alfred Alabo, indicating also that, other officers immediately rushed one of the victims (by name one Mrs Laraba Ibrahim) to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, for medical attention, where the doctor confirmed her dead on arrival, as a result of a gunshot wound she sustained during the attack by the hoodlums.

According to him, “Due to the swift and timely response by the DPO and team, the cowardly hearted robbers took to their heels; hence other victims, who ran into nearby bushes, were also rescued from their unlawful acts.

“That was when the money was recovered and belonged to Mr John Okeke, who was on transit from Saminaka, Kaduna State, to Jos.”

In view of the above the CP urged all residents of the state to continue to give timely information to the Police and other security agencies, as this is one effective way to fight crime and criminality within the state.

The CP has put out a stern and serious warning to criminals within the state to either repent from their wicked ways or leave Plateau State or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

He admonished members of the public to go about their lawful business, as the Command will not rest in its fight against crime and criminality, and will continue to ensure that Plateau State is safe for all.
