Alleged N500m Donation: Senator Mandiya loses case in Katsina Court

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Senator Bello Mandiya, the Senator representing Katsina Zone 3 in the National Assembly, has lost his case at a Katsina State High Court on alleged N500 million given to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party for its national convention, pending before court.

A non-commercial whistle blower, Dr. Mahdi Shehu, had on August 2020, made allegation that APC national body was given N500 million from tax payers’ money by Katsina State Government for their convention and, that, part of the money was paid into Senator Mandiya’s bank account.

Senator Mandiya went to Katsina High Court and sued Dr Mahdi, demanding for N2 billion as general and specific damages for ‘character assassination.’

Delivering judgment on Friday in the High Court, presided by Justice Bawale, the court dismissed the case of Senator Mandiya “for the inability of the claimant to prove their case and establish their claims.”

The whistle blower, Dr. Mahdi Shehu, had earlier alleged that Katsina State Government donated N500 million to APC national convention of 2019, adding that part of the money passed through Senator Mandiya.

Consequently, Senator Mandiya challenged the matter in Katsina High Court and claimed N2 billion damages against Mahadi Shehu for false allegation.

It was alleged that, since 2020, it has been one hide-and-seek gain for Senator Mandiya, who allegedly avoided the court, as he could not advance any evidence to substantiate his claims.

Accordingly, the court, on Friday dismissed the case for inability of the claimant to prove their case and establish their claims during judgment.
