Kaduna State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jema’a and Kaura local government areas, with immediate effect, to down tension, following advice from security agencies in the affected LGAs.
The curfew is to assist the security agencies to stabilize the situation in those areas to save lives and property and enable the restoration of law and order in the places ravaged by terror attacks and killings.
A statement from the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs commissioner, Mr Samuel Aruwan, indicated that “security agencies have full authorization to enforce the curfew.”
“Government appeals to all residents of Jema’a and Kaura local government areas to cooperate with the security agencies in the urgent task of restoring peace and upholding law and order.
“Government condemns the violence and all acts of lawlessness that have occurred in the area,” it stated, adding that further updates would be issued as necessary.
Recalled that reports emanated from the areas had it that terrorists attacked and killed scores and destroyed properties in the early hours of Monday, with casualty figures unauthorized sources put at 23 persons so far.
Penultimate to this development, Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) Youth Wing had intimated its brethren, saying:
“Defend Yourselves. We urge us all not to sit and watch, while our kinsmen are led to slaughter like lambs; our lands taken, our children butchered and our sisters and daughters raped to death.”
The Union, which made the call in a statement issued on Monday morning and signed by its National Youth Leader, Comrade John Isaac, lamented that scores were killed, while properties, including houses were burnt down by the same terrorists just last (Sunday) night at Maraban Agban Kagoro in Southern Kaduna.
The statement, titled: ‘Renewed Attacks and Killings Across Southern Kaduna: A Call for Self-Defense,’ the Union leader expressed dismay that the criminals continued to operate without deliberate attempt by security bodies to intervene and stop them.
He stated thus: “Brethren, we must have observed the reoccurring spate of attacks and killings taking place across our communities in the last few weeks. Last night, Maraban Agban Kagoro came under attack with scores killed, properties and houses burnt by the same terrorists Fulani herders, who have vowed to die attacking our kinsmen. One thing we are sure of is the unarguable fact that they shall continue to labour in vain.
“It is, however, worrisome the manner with which these criminals continue to operate with no deliberate attempt by security bodies to intervene or stop these criminal Fulani terrorists from attacking our communities.
“The Youth Wing of Southern Kaduna People’s Union is again at this time compelled to say Governments – both at the State and Federal levels – have failed to put an end to these mindless attacks on our people and arrest the perpetrators.
“We are calling on all Sons and Daughters across Southern Kaduna in the face of these cruel killings to defend yourselves in the proportionate ways and manners your lives seem threatened.
“We urge us all not to sit and watch, while our kinsmen are led to slaughter like lambs; our lands taken, our children butchered and our sisters and daughters raped to death.
“Let us be reminded that every inch of land in Southern Kaduna is an inheritance from our forefathers and remains the exclusive entitlement of our offspring. We cannot abandon or cede an inch of Southern Kaduna to any coward at this time, not when our forefathers and fathers died protecting it.
“It is a noble duty we hand over same, which was handed to us to our offspring. Brethren, fear not the sounds and echoes of death. For, if God is with us, who can stand against us?
‘For the LORD our God is He that goeth with us, to fight for us against our enemies, to save us.’ Deuteronomy 20:4. “Above all, brethren, let’s continue to look up to the heavens ‘from where cometh our help,’” it stated.
