Jos North North/Bassa Federal Constituency By-election “Most Sensitive” in Plateau – APC Candidate

by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

The Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency election has been adjudged to be one of the most sensitive elections in Plateau, which is easier to contest for a Senatorial seat in the zone than to contest for the House of Representatives “because of the interests that it generates.”

While addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Briefing in Jos, on Wednesday, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Joseph Abbey Aku – for the Jos North North/Bassa Federal Constituency by-election – made this observation, while noting that, “Truly, if you want to consult the people, one must have to work with all the faiths and ethnic nationalities, because anything that happens in this Constituency affects the State.

“My major goal, objective and prayer is that this election will come and go peacefully without any rancho,” he added, and urged all electorates to put aside religious intolerance and ethnicity differences so as to have a true representative in the forthcoming bye-election.

He said, the Party Chairman and himself have called on all the party aspirants to submit 5 names of members of their campaign team so as to have a robust campaign organization.

Hon. Aku further explained that, he has addressed and presented himself to all the religious organizations, both Christians and Muslims, and as well engaged them and was able to engage all the communities: Yoruba, Fulani, Afizere, Anaguta, Igbo, Hausa and their leaders as well.

According to him, “If  truly you want to represent your people, you need to work hand-in-hand with the religious faiths and ethnic nationalities simply because anything that happens here in this constituency also affects the state, too.”

He stressed that all parties must work together, in order to have a peaceful election, and his earnest prayer is that this election will be carried out peacefully, by the grace of God.

“I am very much confident I shall come out successful as a candidate and member of the All Progressives Congress progressive (APC),” he noted.

Also speaking earlier, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Sylvanus Namang, appealed on the electorates not to engage themselves in any violence. He assured that “Hon. Abbey is a credible candidate, despite of all the issues rising from the primaries and, hopefully, he will win the election.”
