by Christiana Gokyo, Jos

The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Shehu Bala Usman, says his administration will collaborate with Rotary International Club to sustain the eradication of polio virus and other diseases in the locality.

Shehu Usman stated this when he received officials of Rotary International Club-7, District Nine-one-two-five, led by Gloria Thomas in his office at the Council Secretariat Jos.

The visit of the Rotarians to Jos North Local Government was part of the Rotary International Club’s efforts to present Aprons ahead of the forthcoming Saturday Immunization against polio virus in the area.

While commending the Rotarians for working tirelessly in assisting government in the campaign to eradicate polio and other diseases in the area, Shehu Usman noted that, due to the heterogeneous nature of Jos North, his administration has taken steps to enhance service delivery of Primary Health Care centers in the area to ensure smooth, effective and efficient immunization of children from zero to five years.

He explained that, this will minimize polio virus in Jos North, thereby making the area polio-free, and assured that personnel of the Primary Health Care centers would be posted to various wards as well as the Rotarians, who had registered their commitment to monitor the exercise to ensure their safety in the cause of their duty.

Speaking earlier, Rotarian Gloria Thomas told the LGC Chairman that they were in the Local Government Council to present Aprons ahead of Saturday’s immunization exercise and commended the commitment of the Shehu Bala-led administration for prioritizing peace and security of its citizens.

She noted that, Rotary International Club would henceforth partner the Council to rid the world of all strains of polio viruses, so that children are not affected by polio paralysis.

She used the visit to intimate the Council Chairman that Rotarians will hold events in October this year, in order to create awareness, raise funds and other support from members for polio eradication exercise. The visit climaxed with the presentation of Aprons to the Council Chairman.
