PALL hails Buhari’s Social Intervention programmes, TSA

by Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A Civil Society Organisation, the ‘Pan-African Leadership League’ (PALL), has hailed what it described as “giant strides of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration” towards repositioning the country.

Executive Director of the League, Mr. Stephen Achi, who made the commendation in a press statement issued in Kaduna on Wednesday, stated that the present administration has recorded landmark achievements that would stand the test of time.

Mr Achi, who commended President Buhari for his focused and transparent leadership, noted that the administration has initiated various development programmes since assumption of office.

He stressed that the programmes that are targeted towards turning the fortunes of Nigeria included the social intervention programmes where operators of small businesses are supported financially to enhance their activities.

The League’s Chief Executive also noted that the administration has equally revolutionised agriculture through enhancing rice production and other produce.

Mr Achi added that under the government’s Anchor Borrowers Agricultural programme with the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, substantial number of farmers have benefitted from agric loans to enhance their farming activities.

He contended that the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline project of the President Buhari-led administration is worthy of note and commendable towards repositioning the economy.

The League’s boss added that the transparent posture of the present administration had led to the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) Policy in various government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to encourage prudent management of public resources.

According to him, “Government and politicians at national and state levels have, however, taken note of looming poverty featured on Nigeria’s population under the present administration.

“They have also taken steps to act and declare a commitment to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty. Government has also taken steps towards economic revitalisation to reduce poverty among the citizenry.”

PALL also noted that with the passage of the long awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), the President Buhari’s administration has reached a milestone in an effort to give the industry a new governance framework.

“Among the key highlights, the bill proposes a commercially-oriented and profit-driven National Petroleum Company. The policy is, however, aimed towards adequate funding of the Petroleum industry,” it stated.

The Executive Director of the Pan-African Leadership League is of the view that the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Authority Commission and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority are to oversee the different segments of the petroleum industry.

He stressed that, “Of great importance, the government has also set up Communities Fund designed to foster sustainable prosperity within the oil communities.” PALL further noted that no any President in Nigeria has ever achieved this landmark in the history of the country.
