President Muhammadu Buhari

The stoning and burning of the billboard wearing the photographs of Nigeria’s President, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State in Zaria has taken over the social media space.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s billboard were on Friday, January 2022, stoned and set ablaze by teenage, irate youths in Zaria City area of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria.

In a viral video, the furry and aggressive-looking youths in their large numbers openly stoned and burnt into ashes, the large billboard bearing President Buhari’s photograph, that of Governor Nasir El-Rufai and one other person.

The sad incident occurred, while the duo was in Zaria City for the commissioning of some projects executed by Governor Nasir El-Rufai administration.

The youths, who sang in Hausa Language, “Ba’mayi,” “Ba’mayi,” later bounced on the billboard, tore it into pieces and burnt it down after some minutes of stoning.

Similarly, a convoy was also on Thursday openly shouted at and harassed by youths suspected to be in Kaduna North, who gathered alongside the popular Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna City also during the President’s working visit to the State.

The incident, which was misconstrued for Maiduguri, Borno State Capital, occurred when the convoy of the President, El-Rufai and his entourage were suspectedly heading towards Kawo for the commissioning of the Kawo Flyover Bridge.

The youths, also in their large numbers, openly shouted at the Presidential convoy continuously in Hausa Language, in a viral video, saying, “Ba ma so,” “Ba ma so,” as the convoy headed towards Kawo.

The video of the incident, which also went viral, conspicuously showed the youth publicly shouting and waving away the President’s convoy in anger continuously.

Our correspondent gathered that the President’s convoy also went to Zaria the next day, Friday, by flight – apparently to avoid same youths’ embarrassment and harassment in like manner.

It was also reliably gathered that President Buhari and his entourage arrived Kaduna, his state of residence, late on Wednesday night, also to avoid being harassed by the aggressive youths of Kaduna State.

It would be recalled that, the President was in Kaduna on two days’ working visit where he commissioned various projects executed by Governor El-Rufai under the Urban Renewal Infrastructural Development projects in the three senatorial zones of the state.
