Leaders of Middle-Belt Forum (MBF) are insisting that government should investigate the circumstances that led to demise of former Deputy Governor of CBN, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, saying the death was so sudden.
Kaduna State chapter of the Forum made the assertion in a statement issued and signed by its State secretary, Mr John Haruna, and made available to our correspondent in Kaduna.
The Forum stated that, “The sudden death of our distinguished leader, erudite scholar, the defender of the marginalized ethnic nationalities in the Middle-Belt and Nigeria, Dr Obadia Mailafiya, came to us as a rude shock.
“It is not surprising at all that this death came. We are all aware what Dr Mailafiya stood for during his life time.”
The Kaduna chapter recalled that press statement released Wednesday by their amiable, courageous, dogged, fearless and indefatigable leader, the National President of the Middle-Belt Forum, Dr Bitrus Pogu, has said it all.
It stated that “On behalf of the entire members of the Forum, Kaduna State Chapter, I send condolences to the entire family of the late Dr Mailafiya and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“We equally condole our Board of Trustees members, the National Executive members, the National President and his entire team over this tragic loss.
“We urge both the State and Federal Government to immediately set up an investigative panel to look into the circumstances that lead to the shabby handling of Dr Mailafiya’s medical circumstances in all the hospitals visited and the role of individuals involved as mentioned in the press released by our National Office,” it stated.
Recalled that the former Presidential candidate died of alleged neglect by medical personnel in government hospital.
