Bandits, in large numbers, reportedly brutally killed a father, abduct his son, niece and nephew, while the mother and daughter escaped with serious bullet injuries on the daughter.

Narrating the ugly incident to journalists on Monday in Kaduna in tears, the victim’s senior daughter, Hadiza Bwala, who works in Gombe Specialist Hospital, said she was called on phone by an in-law that her parents and family have been kidnapped in Kaduna.

She said she was also told that the sad incident occurred around 11pm on 3rd October, 2021, when the bandits opened fire on their vehicle, which was conveying them, around Rijana, in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State.

Hadiza said when several attempts on their phones failed, she decided to wait until next day. She said when she came to Kaduna, the bandits later called her number with her brother’s phone and confirmed of been in custody of her brother and parents, and requested for N150 million ransom.

She said in the process of re-negotiation of the ransom, the brother, in the bandits’ den told her that her father has already been killed, which disorganized and demoralized her seriously.

According to her, the victims were traveling from Anambra State to attend a wedding in Kano when the attacks happened, around 11pm, along Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Hadiza also expressed lamentation that a brother, who took N20 million recharge card demanded by the bandits, was also kidnapped and her brother, who was earlier in the captivity and who was the driver of the private car, was set free.

The mother, according her, narrowly escaped into the bush in the night, adding that the mother was sighted by police on check-point because of the proximity of the police check-point to the direction of the incident.

Also narrating his ordeal, the victim brother and owner of the car, Mr James Chibuike O, said all of a sudden, he realized gun shots on his car, front and back, and in the engine on getting to Rijana area of Kaduna State.

He said, like a dream, someone bailed out of the car, which happened to be her mother, and the rest in the pool of blood and stains inside the car.

The bandits, who he said spoke in Fulani language, later opened the door of his car and gave him thorough beating he has never experienced in life, all because the bandits wanted them to follow them into the bush.

He continued that, they opened the backside door and pulled down his father but later shot him dead when they realized he was not strong enough to follow them into the bush because of his poor ill-health, and left him there, while the rest of them continued into the bushes till the next day.

According to him, one the bandits, who spoke in Hausa to him, asked that “Did you think, if government is not aware, can they do this kind of thing them?, which he answered in affirmation.

He said his brother, who brought ransom of N20m recharge for them was equally given a beating of his life to the point of coma, after collecting the money; kidnapped him and asked him (Chibuike James) to go and arrange their ransom.

On the three years’ old baby belonging to her junior sister, who was shot by elbow, James said the baby fell into the bush, adding that only the miracle of God survived the child, who was found in bush and brought to the hospital where the grandmother identified her three days later.

Up till date, the negotiation for the ransom is still in progress, according to him, for the remaining brother and niece.
