The Nigeria Police, Kaduna Command, on Wednesday deployed heavy police vans loaded with its personnel to Kaduna State University (KASU) campus and scuttled the students’ planned protest against arbitrary increase in school fees by the state.
Recalled that our Kaduna correspondent had earlier in the morning reported that the State University students were set to “rock the booth” with heavy protest over purported arbitrary increment in school fees by the State Government.
It was also reported that, “Preparations completed and information about the protests have gone round all nocks and crannies since morning about the action billed to take place at University environment.”
The reporter further averred that, journalists had all flown into the campus in anticipation for the unexpected students’ uprising promised to be carnal.
Recalled also that, Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led administration recently raised the university tuition fees by and above hundred percent and refused to reverse it, despite outcries by students, parents, spirited individuals and the organized labour.
However, our reporter, who was witnessed the incident, reported that the event later turned around as police security were deployed in huge numbers and took over the school premises and prevented the protests from taking place as planned.
All students were scared and dispersed by the police, fearing that police were instructed to arrest anyone found protesting, for prosecution or to be decisively dealt with.
