The distribution of large-scale foodstuffs of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), the Shiites, has commenced.
The food items being shared indiscriminately for Muslims, Christians and journalists across the 19 Northern States of Nigeria, include bags of Rice, Beans and Millet, respectively.
The distribution of foodstuffs, which commenced since the beginning of the Ramadan, is expected to last for 30 days, officials of the Sheikh have revealed.
Already, hundreds bags of the food items have been distributed to other states, in order to encourage poor Muslims to pray for peace stability of the country.
According to the instruction from Sheikh El-Zakzaky, “Every year, hundreds of bags of grains and other foodstuffs are usually given-out to poor Muslims and disabled persons’ The essence of the gesture is to support Muslims with food to eat during the holy month of Ramadan.
“Even last year, the Annual Ramadan Food Distribution includes Christians, journalists and other Peace Ambassadors across the region. This year also, the foodstuff is shared to many Christians and journalists in Kaduna and some parts of the region,” he stated.
He added that, Covid-19 has caused an increase in the rise of foodstuffs in the entire country; hence the need for him to assist the needy “on a season like this.”
While wishing every Muslim a Happy Sallah in advance, the Sheikh also called for peace and unity in the country.
“The food items were distributed to all the 19 Northern States of Nigeria, and are for the support of the poor Muslims to pray and fast with enough food,” he said, while reminding the authority of his illegal detention for over 5 years.
Responding, one of the Islamic scholars in Kaduna, Mallam Gambo Barnawa, expressed surprise that, despite been in prison, El-Zakzaky still doles-out food and other humanitarian assistance to the needy.
Mallam Barnawa, therefore, called on Muslims and Christians to keep praying for peace in the country.
