PLATEAU STATE – Attack in Riyom LGA claims 6 deaths at Wereng Village

Barely one week after the killing of eight people at a mining point around Maraba Jama’a, in Kuru of Jos South local government area, six persons have been reportedly killed in Wereng Village of Riyom local government area.

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the attack to newsmen in Jos by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Gabriel Ogaba, who said the Command is aware of the unfortunate attack at a beer parlour in Wereng Village of Riyom LGA where six persons lost their lives.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward C, Egbuka, has condemned the incident and has directed the Area Commander to relocate to the area, having deployed more personnel to the area to ensure that normalcy is restored.

Meanwhile, investigation is on to unravel the circumstances that led to the attack and to bring the perpetrators to book.

Our reporter noted that, aside killing of at least 8 persons in Kuru Community of Jos South LGA on 9th April, 2021, the State has just witnessed another armed invasion at about 7:00pm of 15th April, 2021, suspected to have been masterminded by unknown gunmen, as a result of which 6 persons were confirmed dead, while 2 survived with fatal injuries sustained and currently receiving medical care at Vom Christian Hospital.

Investigation revealed that, those who were kill are, Chuwang Williams, 29, Bulus Danbom, 41, Peter Williams, 39 years, with Dung Gyang, 60, Dachung Gara, 44 years, and Davou Dachung, 45 years.

In an interview, one of the victims, Mr. Davou Jatau, narrated thus: “We just returned from mining site that is relatively far from Wereng, and so we decided to have a little rest before proceeding to our respective homes. Unknown to us, armed Fulani were coming after us.

“Not long after the rest in a refreshment home, I heard sporadic gunshots at close range. Everyone started running out for his or her dire life. On trying to escape like any other person, I was shot on my scrotum and immediately fell down, pretending to had died, in order not to be shot again … until vigilante and other people came for our rescue,” he explained.
