The wife of Adamawa state governor, Hajiya Lami Umaru Fintiri, has said, the role of women in sustainable development and peace cannot be achieved, if they will not promote the rights of women and the girl-child against all forms of abuse in the society.
The First Lady restated her commitment to women, children and vulnerable groups in the state through her peace project, ‘Fresh Air Profile Empowerment Foundation,’ with cash donations and with the provision of skills acquisition training in the Central and Northern zones of the state.
Hajiya Lami Fintiri disclosed this recently, while speaking to the 227 ward and local government area women at Banquette Hall, Government House Yola, where she charged the women to be good ambassadors of their own cause.
According to her, there is the need for women leaders to expedite action on promoting the rights and dignity of women and the girl-child against the society.
The governor’s wife also urged the women to maintain all guidelines of COVID-19 through social distancing, hand washing with soap and water and the constant use of hand sanitizers and the use of face-masks.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital, Hon. Wulbina Jackson, stated that, educating women is the best way to end injustice against them, and thanked the wife of the governor for organising the meeting, commending her for finding the courage to stand for the right cause.
A member representing Demsa Constituency in the state Assembly, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, commended the efforts of Mrs. Fintiri for being instrumental to the VAPP bill and Child Act Law that, if implemented, would bring change to the womenfolk in the state.
The state Women Leader, Group Captain Altine, thanked the First Lady, while promising to mobilize the women “in support for the progress of the party at any given time needed.”
