The tomb of the first Prime Minister of Nigeria, late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, is billed to be rehabilitated to make it more befitting.
Bauchi State Government has expressed its concern over the negligence of the tomb to decay over the years. This is because the Bauchi state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, last year declared January 15 of every year a day to offer prayers and in memory of the late Tafawa Balewa.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism for Bauchi State, Dr Asma’u Ahmed Giade, disclosed this during the annual memorial lecture and prayer season for the reposed soul of the late Prime Minister, which was organized by the state government and held at the tomb in Bauchi recently.
She said the complex was neglected for decades by past administration, saying the present administration had a plan to renovate the place, so that it could help attract more tourists from within and outside the country.
Speaking also at the event, elder son of the late Prime Minister, Malam Yakubu Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, lamented that, children of the late Tafawa Balewa are not being carried along in the scheme of things in the country.
