The Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Finance, led by its chairman, Hon. Wallok Goma, has embarked on oversight functions to ministries to see things for themselves, and their first point of call was at the Ministry of Finance where the committee chairman explained that the oversight function is as mandated by law.
He made the disclosure, while at the ministry, located at JD Gomwalk Secretariat Jos, on Monday. The committee chairman clarified that the visit was to seek for collaboration and clarifications regarding the financial performance of the state.
Hon. Goma said it was an oversight function, which is a necessary responsibility that must be carried out.
He said the year is coming to a close, and an entire appropriation bill is already in the House, and assured that members will soon be looking at 2021 before then.
“So, there is need for the House to be satisfied with what has been done so far before looking into the years ahead,” he noted.
In responding, the representative Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Mrs. Regina Somlat, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sani Yahaya, expressed delight with the lawmakers for the visit, saying, it was a “welcome development in the right direction,” and assured the lawmakers of the ministry’s cooperation in every regard.
