Hon. Hassan Hyet has been reelected as chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State, for another four years’ tenure, in a keenly contested election.
Hyet won with 197 votes against his opponent, who pulled 471 votes, during the state congress held Saturday and Sunday, at the Kaduna International Trade Fair Complex, Kaduna.
During the congress, Hon. Gideon Goni, member representative Sanga Federal House Constituency in House of Reps and a party top shot, Hon. Jibril Lawal Tafida, cleared the air about a pre-planned adoption of unanimous candidate, which almost tore the party apart.
Hon. Goni, who is the minority whip, House of Representatives, said the emergence of opposition candidates for position of Chairman and other offices demonstrated that the issue of adoption had been overtaken by events.
He also said that adoption, which arose earlier, was no longer there, given the fact that the election was keenly contested with opposition and unopposed candidates that would guarantee free contest that would lead emergence of independent candidates of choice of the electorates.
In an interview with newsmen, winner of the chairmanship election, Hon. Hyet, promised to resettle power from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC,-led el-Rufai government in 2023.
