Media Foundation felicitates with Pathfinder on 55 years’ celebration of saving lives

by Juliana K. Tauna, Kaduna

Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) has felicitated with Pathfinder International as it celebrates 55 years of saving and changing lives, especially those of women and girls’ reproductive age in Nigeria.

Pathfinder International is a leading international non-governmental organization working to improve reproductive health around the world. It currently supports activities in 26 countries in Africa, Asia, Near East and Latin America.

Since 1965, Pathfinder International Nigeria has taken a comprehensive approach to develop and implement programmes that focus on family planning, reproductive health services, maternal and new-born health, adolescent activities, as well as HIV and AIDS.

A statement by Deputy Executive Director of AMDF, Mrs Sekyen Dadik, indicated that, “Pathfinder has indeed impacted on the lives of people through its various projects, which include family planning and reproductive health services; household-level water, sanitation and hygiene; community-based activities and outreach through investing in community health workers; immunizations for mothers and young children; maternal and young child nutrition.

“The organization has supported Development Journalism Conference and Training activities to encourage journalists to promote issues of development in hard-to-reach communities,” it further noted.

AMDF, in the statement, also acknowledges the organization’s effort in engaging journalists in its approaches to effectively pass the message of family planning across Nigeria.

Consequently, Pathfinder International has set up a family planning media advocacy working group in Lagos, and has been actively working with journalists in Kaduna, Niger, Plateau, Gombe and Benue states.

AMDF, therefore, commends Pathfinder International for “breaking the grounds” in sexual reproductive health in Nigeria against all odds and bringing hope to women and girls and, by extension, families, communities and the society as a whole.
